Procrastinator Party - Mission Accomplished!

Well here I am ready to check back in to Melissa's Procrastinator's Party.  I managed to complete my 2 projects last week.  I am so glad that I did because the past four days I have been caring for my 15 year old daughter.  She has been diagnosed with both Mono AND Swine Flu.  Poor baby is so, so sick!

My first project was this $2 Book Cradle:

First I cleaned, sanded, and primed it.  I used a can of white primer that the builder had left for us when we built the house.

Then I painted it black with the can of Glidden Black Onyx that I had previously used for this project.

Here is the finished product and I am quite pleased:

It has found a home under my favorite Ansel Adams print in my office.  Hopefully someday soon I will have a big, comfy reading chair also in this corner.  There's nothing I love more than curling up in a cozy chair with a good book!

My second project was the small chest that I had acquired for free on someone's curb:

I did not prime this piece.  All it took was 2 coats of Glidden Pineapple which I had leftover from the Painted Patio Furniture Party.

The only thing missing are the knobs.  I decided rather than put back on the original wooden knobs, that I would keep my eye out for either glass knobs or maybe something in red.

This Chest is for my Craft Room, so I think I might experiment with a little distressing around the edges. What do you think?

Now head on over to The Inspired Room and check out all of the great projects from the rest of the "procrastinators".

  8. I hope your daughter is better soon, she must be really sick with both of those at once. The table turned out great. I have an antique walnut one in my guestroom. I told my husband I wanted to paint it white (as well as the other antique furniture in the room) and he is about to kill me for thinking about it. I'll win though.

  9. A happy color for the chest of drawers. The book holder is a cute design. I can't believe your daughter has both --my son had mono last year, but with meds he was soon back to normal.

  12. The little book table is so sweet! I have always wanted to find one of these. I like the chest too and I think a little distressing would give it some great character!

  13. Hi Stephanie,
Great transformations!! Both pieces look great! I'm so sorry to hear about your daughter, poor thing, I hope she gets better soon.
Thanks for stopping by my blog. I wanted to pop over and answer your question. I just use photo editing software (like Photoshop or PSP, you can probably do it in the "Paint" program too) to change the colors. If your not computer savvy, you might just try coloring your silhouettes in by hand first and then taking them to your photocopy place to make a copy of.
    I hope that helps!

  16. Love the dresser- I adore curbside finds. Hey since it is going in the craft room and it was free why not decopauge the knobs with various red scrapbook papers that you like..That way it is crafty and still free.

Oh, your poor daughter! My oldest had mono one year and it wiped her out forever! But add swine flu to it, YIKES! She must feel terrible!

Hope she feels better soon...and thanks for sticking it out with the projects!!
