Window Treatments...at long last.

One of the items on my list of things to do before the holidays was to get curtains hung in my Family Room.  We moved into this home in Feb. 2008 - almost 2 years ago, and finally I have fabric on my windows!

If you recall I shared with you my fabric find and wasn't sure what to do with my windows.  I know I could have done full length curtains, but decided against it.  There are 5 windows in this room, so I decided floor length curtains were a) not in my budget, and b) too much heavy fabric covering the walls.

The wonderful Kristin at Boulevard Interior Design featured my design dilemna on her weekly feature "Free Advice Friday".  Kristin suggested Roman Shades which would have been lovely, but a bit too formal for this room.  Also, she suggested taking the fabric to the ceiling, and I chose not to do this.  Mainly because we plan to install crown moulding in this room in 2010.  Such an honor to be featured on Kristin's blog.  Thank you Kristin, your post and visuals lit a fire under my tooshie.

Therefore, I chose to go with valances and keep the look casual and comfortable, which is what this Family Room is all about.  I found the fabric on fabric.com and my wonderful, loving, generous mother hemmed up a simple valance.  I purchased inexpensive rods and rings at Walmart, and I absolutely am thrilled to have window coverings in this room.  Such a difference it makes - why did I wait so long?
